Fat Dads: TECHnically, we’re both! [beta]

One particular Fat Dad’s take on some the tech news that seems to be going around the InterWeb.

Apple releases Safari 3.1 for Mac and Windows March 18, 2008

And there was much rejoicing.

Safari 3.1

Apple has released an updated version of the Safari web browser with a slew of performance, compatibility, and reliability tweaks. Safari 3.1 also adds support for CSS 3 web fonts, HTML 5 audio and video elements, and other web standards. Safari was the first browser to pass the Acid2 standards test, but like pretty much every other browser available today, it fails to pass the Acid3 test.

The update also includes:

  • Improved JavaScript performance
  • Enhancements to the Windows version including localization in 16 languages, Improved back/forward performance, and better pop-up blocking
  • Double clicking on the tab bar opens a new tab
  • URL metadata is included when images are dragged or saved from the browser
  • Supports trackpad gestures for back, forward, and magnify on MacBook AIR and Pro computers

You can either download a standalone installer for Safari 3.1 or download the application through Apple’s software update tool.

Thanks to DownloadSquad for the heads up.

Twitter in Plain English… March 11, 2008

Twitter What are you doing?

Anyone who has visited any of my blogs knows that I have quite the penchant for Twitter. It’s community seems more vibrant with thoughts, things overheard, questions and ideas rather than just being somebody’s life aggregator (sorry Jaiku). I have to admit that I have been prone to Twittering Habs hockey games, ski trips and the occasional silly outburst in a meeting (read Luddites explanation of technology). It’s often the perfect 140 distraction for when I’m waiting: in line, for someone, while the commercials are on.

Well one of my fellow Twitters: Cali Lewis, host of Geek Brief TV, stumbled on this great flash video from CommonCraft on what Twitter is. Twitter in plain English. Great video, thanks again Cali.

The funny thing about this is that if you have a beard and ever need to talk on your mobile phone in public, you will probably be shot by the Met, before any Chav manages to mug you.

And you think I’m being a little silly, just read this Boing Boing post: http://www.boingboing.net/2008/03/10/suspicious-beard-ter.html

Beverly Hills by Weezer, Ole Skool Video by Nick March 6, 2008

My little cousin, Nick, has put up a new video of Beverly Hills by Weezer on YouTube. I love this song and he has put together and pretty cool Ole Skool Punk Rock video for it. You can see more of his work on his YouTube account page, a word of warning some stuff will leave confused and a little worried but mostly entertained.

Well done! Enjoy!
